Conversational legal research and drafting on the Lexis corpus with Shepard's citation validation.

What it is good at

Shepard's integration builds citation validation into the workflow, which is pedagogically useful because it makes the verify-your-authority step visible rather than optional. Measured hallucination rate of about 17% was the lowest of the major legal research tools in the Stanford study — still high, but the best of a bad field.

Use it for

A Shepardize-everything lab: taking an AI-generated research summary and running every cited case through Shepard's, documenting any that are fabricated, reversed or superseded. Drafting a client-intake summary from a fact pattern, then comparing against the authorities to catch overstated conclusions. Comparing Protégé output against Nexis Uni on the same question.

Where it falls short

About one in six responses contained fabricated or misgrounded content even with retrieval grounding available — state that to students explicitly. LexisNexis educational-ID terms do name paralegal programs, but the free Lexis+ AI rollout went specifically to ABA-accredited law schools, so a paralegal program may get educational IDs without the AI layer.
